| Andra (French national agency for radioactive waste management) is now defining initial state of surface environment in the context of future geological disposal for high level radioactive waste located in the North-East of France. The objective of the Andra specimen banking is to store samples from different compartments relevant to different food-chains before but also after construction in order to control environemental parameters in the context of the Observatoire Pérenne de l’Environnement. This Observatory will follow on the long term (secular scale) the evolution of the quality of the environmental compartments relevant to the area above. Agricultural and forest ecosystems will be then monitored. Series of samples will be supported by an important analytical and measurement strategy. Physico-chemical, biological and radiological parameters relevant to quality of air, surface waters, soils, sediments as well as biological specimens have been selected. Associated to each parameter, a protocol for preparing and storing environmental samples have been defined. Andra Specimen Bank will manage a lot of different specimen (air, water, soil, biological material) and different analytical objectives. Its originality is to adapt different storage strategy for each issue.
